Winter Walk
The wind blew overnight on Saturday, sounded like a hurricane, it didn’t do much in the way of encouraging us to leave the comfort of our beds for the winter walk. We did and were really pleased we made the effort and arrived at sunny and windy Saltburn for 10 o’clock. 23 people and 3 dogs set off, led by Mike we walked inland along the gill, well sheltered before climbing up a steep bank, friendly horses greeted us, I was less keen on them. We then headed towards Brotton village. A stop here for emergency drinks for the youngest walker, Matthew Raine who had declared he was dehydrated!! From Brotton a short walk across the golf course brought us out on to the cliffs. A short break for a coffee stop, sheltering at the old pump house. Across the railway line and we battled the wind along the coast path back towards Saltburn, admiring the views( and the drops down towards the sea). Back to Saltburn and people went their separate ways, some to local pubs, some for fish and ships and walks along the beach and pier. Our thanks go to Mike Horner for taking the time to organise the walk, it made a lovely change to do a coast walk, well done Mike.
